Migne confidently backed his decision to leave out the Zesco United forward and said it was purely based on selecting the best team and not just the best players.

“It’s a choice and it’s always difficult. I need to try to harmonize not the best 23 players in my list but the best group,” he said according to Capital FM.

Were's numbers in the Zambian league are impressive to say the least but Migne pointed out that his stats for Harambee Stars was not anything to write home about.

“For Jesse in 26 call ups he has never scored one goal for the national team. I know he is the best striker in Zambia but we also have the best striker in Kenya in the list.

In 2018 the striker scored 18 league goals while this year, he has scored nine times in the league and six in the Champions league to bring his tally to 15 with the season not yet over.

"Today he is not in my list but tomorrow he is there. Always the player has the answer; maybe it’s a good message for him,” Kenya's head coach said.
