Kenya is in Pot ‘C’ alongside South Africa, neighbours Uganda, Benin, Mauritania and debutants Madagascar.

National soccer team Harambee Stars have been placed in Pot three ahead of the draw for this year’s Africa cup of Nations (AFCON) finals slated for Friday night in Cairo, Egypt and which will be televised live on KBC Channel One..

Stars, who qualified for the event after finishing second in their qualifying group behind Ghana, are back at the continental stage for the 6th time after a 15 years hiatus.

The national soccer team took part for the first time in 1972, before featuring again in 1988, 1990, 1992 and 2004 in Tunisia where it was eliminated at group stage under Coach Jacob Ghost Mulee.

For the first time in the events history, a total of 24 teams will compete and they have been placed in four pots of six teams each.

FIFA’s ranking system was used to place the teams in their respective Pots.  Kenya is in Pot three alongside fellow East Africans Uganda, South Africa, Benin, Mauritania and Madagascar.

Also for the first time, four teams from the CECAFA region: Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania and Kenya will take part in the event that kicks off from June 21st to July 19, where Cameroon will be out to defend their title they won in 2017, after beating Egypt in the final.

The draw will be aired live on KBC Channel one starting at 8:45pm East African time.
