Friday March 1, 2019 - Details have emerged about a meeting held at State House over the weekend where President Uhuru Kenyatta resolved to appoint Prof George Magoha as Education Cabinet Secretary. Prior to his appointment, Prof Magoha was the chairman of Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC). Amina Mohamed, who was in ther Education docket, was moved to the Sports and Culture docket while Richard Echesa was sacked.

According to impeccable sources, it is National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga, and Super Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, who convinced Uhuru to appoint Magoha.

Deputy President William Ruto had, in spirited attempts, tried to block the appointment of Magoha saying Uhuru should appoint Education Principal Secretary, Dr Belio Kipsang, as the Cabinet Secretary. Uhuru was furious about Ruto’s proposal and he almost banged the table before settling on Magoha. News of Prof Magoha’s appointment caused shivers in the education sector given his Matiang’i style of operation.
