Kenya has sealed several infrastructure contracts with French companies after Emmanuel Macron’s visit into the country. According to Reuters, one of the contracts entered into is the Nairobi – Mau Summit Highway valued at KSh 181.5 billion (€1.6 billion) to be paid in 30 years. The project will be carried out by French concessions and construction firm, Vinci.

Kenya also signed a KSh7.9 billion contract with Voltalia, a renewable energy company, for two solar power sites. The deal is in line with Kenya’s commitment to move toward renewable energy sources.

A group of French companies landed a contract worth KSh22.7 billion to provide surveillance services at the Kenyan coast.

Additionally, France agreed to finance a light rail project that will link Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the Central Business District. At a press conference, the French President said, “We are launching a project for the refurbishment of the rail-line from the central station to the airport.” The commuter rail system is expected to start operating by 2021.
