Keroche bosses in court seeking to stop arrest : The Standard

Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja and her husband Joseph Karanja have now gone to court seeking to stop their arrest over alleged Sh14 billion tax fraud. The entrepreneurs through their lawyer James Orengo want High Court to stop DPP Noordin Haji from charging them with ten counts where the exchequer lost tax. The couple spent the night locked in their office in Naivasha as DCI and KRA officers camped at the gate. Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has condemned the manner in which KRA is treating the owners of the company which has employed over 500 people directly.

The Governor said that the onslaught against investors could derail employment and investment opportunities in the county. Kenyans also took to the social media to lash out at the government and defend the Naivasha based company noting that this spelt doom for local entrepreneurs. Earlier, Mrs Karanja had attributed her woes to a fight from her competitors after launching the KB Lager. "Courtesy demands that the DCI or KRA summons us over the tax allegations but this has not been done and we see the hand of our competitor in this," she said. The DPP, Noordin Haji, on Wednesday issued an arrest order against the couple for the Sh14 billion tax evasion which dates back to 2015.
