Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) CEO, Mercy Karogo, has defended the new competence based curriculum, saying it is designed to be all inclusive and learner centered.
Speaking in Machakos County during the four-day nationwide teacher training on the new curriculum, Karogo said the curriculum offers an avenue for parental engagement.
The training of over 90,000 teachers which ends today went on despite objections by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT).
KNUT had urged its members to boycott the training on the new curriculum pending dialogue during a national education conference that is aimed at informing curriculum reforms.

Machakos County Teachers Service Commission Director David Mukui warned teachers against heeding to trade unionists calls to boycott the training saying that anyone involved will face disciplinary mechanisms.
The ministry of education rolled out the new curriculum system nationwide in January from pre-unit to Grade Three.
It was also piloted in 33,000 private and public primary schools last year.
