Romelu Lukaku has criticised Manchester United for disowning him before he left for Inter Milan.

The Belgian striker said he was not responsible for leaking transfer rumours before leaving and slammed his former club for the way they treated him before his exit.

Lukaku, while speaking on Lightharted podcast with NBA star Josh Hart, said he felt unprotected and unwanted at Old Trafford towards the end of his Manchester United career.

"A lot of stuff has been said, but I didn't feel protected I felt like a lot of rumours, trade rumours, Rom is gonna go there...they don't want Rom, and nobody came out and shut them down.
"For Three four weeks I'm waiting until someone comes and shuts it down it didn't happen and I'm like oh so thats how its gonna be? Lukaku said.
"There is fighting for your position and being somewhere where people want you to be. If you're happy, you find a way, it doesn't matter if you're on the bench or starting," he went on.

After transfers rumours got worse and things got uglier the 26-year-old realised the situation would not get any better and that he need to make a decisive move fo the sake of his future.

"So I analysed it for two three weeks and I see all this **** on social media who leaks it? not me, not my agent. We just see it on my phone and i'm like what's that?"
"I told them it's not good for me to be at a place where I'm not wanted, We're not stupid. They consider us dumb, but we athletes are not dumb, we know who is doing leaks and stuff. I told them, you can't be working like this, it's better for me to go now," the Belgian said.

Lukaku said he felt unwanted by many people at the club and that he would not be part of a system that made him feel that way.

And we had our conversation and I told them its better we go our separate ways and because you guys don't wanna protect me but you say you wanna keep me,
"Because I never tolerate rumours, the only thing I said is that I wanted a little bit of protection like 'he just need to fight for his place or whatever'...it never happened," Lukaku revealed.

Interestingly the Belgian was even more perplexed on how he performed so well at international level and could simply not do the same at Man United.

"The thing that confused me is that how is it that when im playing with the national team so well and nobody there complains,

And despite acknowledging the two games were different, Lukaku was convinced the style of play at Old Trafford and the Belgian Red Devils was virtually the same.

"When I go and play for my country I mean hey I play well, we play the same style of play that we wanna play in both Belgium that we do at Man United....so is it me?," Lukaku said.

TUKO.co.ke previously reported that Paul Pogba was racially abused on social media after he missed a penalty which could have given Man United a 2-1 lead against Wolves, in their 1-1 draw on Monday night, August 19.

The France international won the spot-kick and took it despite having words with Marcus Rashford on who to take the penalty.
