The Intercontinental Olympic Qualifiers will kick off Friday with the National women’s volleyball team Malkia Strikers facing an uphill task to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The team coached by Shailen Ramdoo will take on hosts Italy, Netherlands and Belgium in Pool F of the Intercontinental Olympic qualifiers in Italy.

Coach Ramdoo, who took over in May last year said he will use the Intercontinental Qualifiers and the African Games in Rabat to strengthen his squad ahead of the Olympics.

Last month, Malkia Strikers finished second at the Africa Cup of Nations after losing out to Cameroon 3-2 in the final.

However, Ramdoo believes his main target will be to help the country return to the Olympics after an absence of over a decade.

Malkia strikers last featured at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.
