Manchester United despite maintaining the wealth of possession and dominating play, were unable to penetrate the Eagles and found it difficult to defeat Vicente Guaita.

With a number of free kicks taken by (one by Paul Pogba and two by Marcus Rashford) the Red Devils still were unable to penetrate and find the back of the net.

United eventually earned themselves a penalty after Scott Mctominay was brought down by Milivojevic in the 70th minute.

However despite Marcus Rashford stepping up instead of Pogba, United still were unable to convert after his effort hit the post from the spot to deny the Old Trafford dwellers an equaliser.

It was a frustrating day for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as fortune did not favour his men with the Red Devils' attempt after attempt and wave after wave of attacks, were thwarted.

Daniel James got the equaliser late in the game (89') when Pogba recovered the ball delivered a penetrating pass that was then helped by Martial to James who placed the ball in the top corner.

And just when Manchester United fans thought it would be 'Fergie time', the game took a rather interesting twist.

Christian Benteke then disposed pogba at stoppage time and the Eagles caught Manchester United on the counter flat footed as Patrick Van aanholt beat in extra time (90+3').

Roy Hodgson's men held on to their single goal lead to the final whistle taking home three points away at Old Trafford.
