After going for three games without a win, Makongeni Sports Association (MASA) regained their momentum after edging out Rongai All Stars 3-1 in an entertaining Super Eight Premier League match held at Makongeni Grounds on Sunday.

Masa’s goal poacher Abdallah Gona netted the opener in the first minute of the match but after settling in the heated match Rongai went on the rampage in search of an equaliser and their efforts paid off in the 38th minute after Samuel Kapen sent a strong rebound shot that caught their opponent’s custodian napping.

Rongai’s joy was, however, short- lived as hosts were awarded a controversial penalty after the former’s keeper Halkano Guyo brought down Chris Oduor inside the danger area.

Odour stepped up and showed his scoring prowess by sending the keeper the wrong way to give MASA a 2-1 lead at half-time.

Upon resumption, Rongai found themselves on the receiving end yet again after Oduor was left unmarked inside the danger area and did not waste the golden opportunity as he sent a thunderbolt past the hapless goalie in 68th minute to ensure they carried home the three points.

Goal difference

The win sees MASA leap one spot up to settle at ninth spot on the 16-team table standings with nine points which they are tied with Rongai but with a better goal difference.

Masa’s head coach, Hosea Akala stated he is satisfied with the result and hoped his team continued to register similar results in their upcoming fixtures.

“I am pleased with our performance, every department played their role well which I can say is the result of good preparation,” said Akala after the match. His opposite number Erick Kyalo said his team performed poorly and succumbed to pressure.
