MPs affiliated to DP Ruto vow to oppose proposals to tax Kenyans further

MPs affiliated to the United Democratic Party will oppose proposals in the finance bill to tax Kenyans further the party is categorically opposed to anti-Hustler fiscal measures and predatory taxation.

In a statement read in turns by various elected leaders Among them Kandara MP Alice Wahome, Garissa Town MP Adan Duale as well as UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina, the Party expressed concern over attempts by the Government to increase the national debt ceiling.

“This is an attempt o extend the cover for reckless expenditures and the wanton siphoning of public resources that continue to disgust Kenyans. This unprecedented profligacy has become the intolerable monument of the Handshake Era,” They said.

They MPs say they will participating vigorously in parliamentary business that will generate pro-Hustler measures and policies to address the urgent problems of the majority.

“As a first step, the UDA PG has also resolved to amend the Budget Policy Statement in order to increase the allocation to counties to 35 per cent. We see this as a practical measure to increase resources to finance service delivery at the real bottom of our socio-economic pyramid,” They said.

Top on the meeting agenda were deliberations on the Political Parties Bill, Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, Huduma Bill, Finance Bill, Petroleum Products (Amendment) Bill and Regulation of Political Parties Act.

“UDA PG has resolved to introduce amendments to the Budget Policy Statement and the Supplementary Budget to allocate resources to cushion Kenyans from harsh economic conditions and the impacts of the drought. Priority, therefore, must be accorded to drought mitigation and recovery by subsidising the prices of farming inputs,” They said.
