MPs allied to DP Ruto want Murathe out of Jubilee : The Standard

A section of Jubilee Members of Parliament from South Rift region have now asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to fire Jubilee Vice-Chairman David Murathe from the party. Speaking in separate occasions, Kipkelion West MP Hillary Koskei and Belgut Member of Parliament, Nelson Koech accused Murathe of attempting to wreck the party from within. Murathe on political tour to Western Kenya caused storm in Deputy President William Ruto’s camp after the former MP called on the DP to retire from politics alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.   “Who is Murathe to ask Ruto to retire from politics in 2022. It has reached a time that we are now forced to ask President Uhuru to tell us why Murathe is still in jubilee. Why is he still being allowed to go around trying to wreck the party by making irresponsible utterances,” said Koskei.

Speaking at Sireret Village in Kipkelion West Constituency in funeral service of the late Thomas Ngeno, the Kipkelion West MP traced Murathe’s trouble making streak to just before 2013 General Election. “Just before the 2013 General Election, Murathe was among the people who did not believe that President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto had a chance due to then trumped up International Criminal Court charges. If he was paid then to try to usefully scuttle President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto’s chances he should by now realise that is an exercise in futility,” said Koskei. Belgut MP Nelson Koech argued that Murathee was not authorised to speak on pertinent Jubilee issues since he had been elected an interim Jubilee vice- chairman and his term in office has since elapsed.  “Murathe, has no capacity to talk on behalf of Jubilee since his term in office elapsed in December 2017,” he said. Koech, added that Ruto is loved across the country going by the new allies he had been wining to his side across the country including in the opposition strong holds.

“The Jubilee leadership under President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto have not discriminated any part of the country in terms of development. There is no doubt that Kenyans will reward vote for Ruto to become the president in the 2022 General Election,” said the Belgut MP. Koech dared Murathe to repeat his remarks in a different occasion adding that he is setting himself for dire consequences. “Murathe, chose to make his remarks during Christmas period when parliament is in recess and most of us were concentrating in Christmas festivities. We dare him that if he is man enough to dare repeat his remarks on ordinary working days and brace himself for the political ramifications,” he said. The legislators told Murthe and his ilk to allow every Kenyan their democratic rights to participate in democratic process. “Even if you have a contrary opinion, allow every Kenyan who believe can lead the country to battle it out in the 2022 general election,” said Koskei.
