Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed Nacho Monreal is on the verge of leaving the club before the European transfer window shutting.

With the window set to close on Monday, September 2, Real Sociedad are said to have made a late move to bring Monreal back to Spain.

According to a Metro UK report, the defender has agreed a two-year contract with the Spanish club, and talks are in advanced stages to seal the transfer.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the 33-year-old's future at Arsenal, he was handed a start in Arsenal's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, August 24.

Emery has however come out to concede the Spaniard defender could be allowed to leave.

"He made a very big match, very big match, and he’s a very big professional for us. ‘It’s one issue, we need to speak the next days because in Europe the transfer window isn’t finished yet," Emery said on Monreal's future.
"With Nacho there is one possibility that’s open and we’re going to speak about that," Emery further submitted.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have since revamped their backline following the arrival of David Luiz from Chelsea and Kieran Tierney from Celtic.
