The National Police Service (NPS) is worried over the rising cases of depression among police officers.
The NPS is however quick to note that it has taken appropriate action and is managing the cases through counselling and sports.
In the last couple of years, cases of suicide and murder within the force have risen with depression, harsh economic times and working conditions being blamed for the incidents.
According to Nakuru County Commander Beatrice Kiraguri, NPS is making every effort to improve the living and working conditions of the security officers.
She noted that the police officers were like other Kenyans were also affected by family issues, working conditions and harsh economic times.
Healing boot football tournament is among activities that have been adopted in Nakuru to help police officers time to wind down and engage members of the public
She at the same time said that crime levels in the county had gone down due to collaborations between the police and the public.
Kiraguri was addressing the press after visiting Gilgil Special School where police officers donated assorted food and non-food items to the institution that has 125 students.
“During Christmas, the officers were very busy but through their contribution, we have decided to visit these students who have special needs as part of community service,” she said.
