A multi-agency team led by Nanyuki DCI have arrested eight suspected members of a terror cell in Katheri area, Meru County.
Six of them were arrested while travelling in a black Toyota Fielder suspected to be carrying the suspects after a tip off from members of the public.
The driver and the co-driver who managed to escape were later arrested after the public reported two suspicious men around the area where the incident occurred.
Confirming the incident, Laikipia County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Onesmus Towet said that they have placed the eight under custody awaiting for translators in order to commence investigations.
Towet said that the suspects will be detained at Nanyuki police station for further investigations adding that they suspect that they are of Ethiopian origin.
The police boss assured Laikipia and Meru residents that security has been beefed up across the two Counties and called upon the public to share information on any suspicious activities within the area.
The suspects will remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in Nanyuki Law courts after investigations are complete.
