Tuesday November 20, 2018 – Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has finally allowed Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho’s family to operate freight businesses in the Mombasa Port.
8 months ago, KRA closed the Autoports Freight Terminals Limited and Portside Freight Terminals Limited which are owned by Joho’s family.
The taxman accused the companies of smuggling illegal goods into the country including drugs and counterfeit goods, a claim that Joho denied.
But after the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga, Joho seems to be enjoying the fruits of the handshake after the two businesses resumed their operations.
On Monday, the company placed a banner on the SGR container reading, “Autoports Freight Terminal Limited – your navigator in the logistics world – supports the SGR.”
When contacted, Joho ‘refused’ to comment on the issue but sources said he is very happy with the opening of his businesses because he was losing millions of shillings daily due to closure.
