Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is gaining ground and is currently performing better than Deputy President William Ruto as far as 2022 presidential elections is concerned.

This is according to the findings of a latest poll dubbed “voice of the people poll” conducted by Infotrak Research and Consulting between 17th and 21st December 2021.

In the poll, the firm says the August 2022 presidential elections will be a two horse race pitting Ruto and Raila. At the same time, the two leading political parties currently are ODM and UDA.

If the elections were held today, Infotrak says the ODM leader will win the neck and neck race to earn the right to succeed President Kenyatta.

“33% noted that if elections were held today they would select Raila Odinga as President on the other hand 32% would select William Ruto 32%,” Infotrak noted in its findings

The two leaders are currently winning four regions each with Raila enjoying a lot of support in Coast, Western, Nyanza and North Eastern Kenya. Ruto on the other hand is leading in Central, Rift Valley, Eastern and Nairobi.

The firm says Ruto has lost some ground as compared to 2020.  A similar poll conducted by the firm last year showed that the DP was leading Raila with 44% compared to former PM’s 15 %. And even in November this year, just a month ago, the research firm says its survey showed Ruto was still ahead of Raila with 34% compared to ODM leaders 25%.

The end of the year poll is the first one showing Raila having an edge against the deputy president.

And that’s not all. Infotrak says majority of Kenyans feel that the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) bringing together Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi and Moses Wetangula, should be dissolved.

“Most surveyed Kenyans feel that OKA should support Raila Odinga (55%)” the firm noted
