Patients seeking services at public health facilities in Samburu County can now breathe easy after nurses in the county called off their two week strike.
The stalemate came to an end after the County government agreed to meet some of the nurse’s demands including promotions to higher job groups.
“We have discussed and agreed with our County government that they will promote us, the nurses’ allowance will be handled by a Nairobi’s negotiating team,” said Kenya National Union of Nurses Samburu branch Secretary Halima Letoluai.

But now, nurses are set to get back to work after calling off the strike upon reaching a deal with the County government.
The County government acknowledged that some of the demands are practicable.
It further said that an advisory committee to be drawn from the County’s departments of health and finance, nurses union, public service board and human resource management would soon meet to discuss implementation of promotions of nurses.
