A special senate committee on the proposed removal, by impeachment, of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru kicks off its hearings Tuesday morning.

The eleven member committee will Tuesday receive evidence from the County Assembly.

The Senate sanctioned the committee to investigate whether there are sufficient grounds to uphold the impeachment of the governor or clear her of the charges to continue holding office.

Should the team find the governor has no case to answer, there will be no further debate on the matter.

Waiguru is accused of abuse of office, gross misconduct, and manipulating the public procurement procedures.

She is also accused of illegally conferring a benefit of Sh10 million to herself for travel allowance.
