Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has directed the closure of 25 companies polluting Nairobi River.
Addressing the media when supervising the on-going clean up process of the river, Sonko accused the companies of discharging effluent and other harmful chemicals into the river despite several warnings.
‘‘Those companies releasing their chemicals and waste in to Nairobi must be closed immediately we are not going to allow them to continue operating.’’ Sonko noted.
He further directed closure of all hospitals fond of carrying out illegal abortions be shut down and their licences cancelled.
According to Sonko his government will not sit down and watch rogue health facilities joking with human life and disposing bodies into the river.
Nairobi City County Environment Minister Veska Kangogo and Chief Officer security and compliance Tito Kilonzi have been tasked by the governor to ensure the directives are effected promptly without delays.
Nairobi county government has so far retrieved more than three bodies from Nairobi river a clear indication that it is being used as a dumping site of aborted babies and even newborns.
The cleaning is being initiated by Ngarisha Jiji under the county government .
