Anthony Joshua has joked he might ban Drake from his dressing room after revealing that he has already fallen victim to the rapper’s ‘curse’.

The Canadian musician has developed a reputation for bringing bad luck to several sports stars he has met and taken pictures with.

And heavyweight champion Joshua is determined to avoid falling victim to the jinx when he defends his IBF, WBO and WBA Super world titles against Andy Ruiz Jr in New York on June 1.

The 29-year-old, who will be making his debut in the United States, recently joked that he has already experienced bad luck after posting a picture with Drake to his Instagram account in March.

Less than a month after the image was taken, it was revealed that Jarrell Miller – Joshua’s original opponent for the Madison Square Garden date – had tested positive for a banned substance, causing the fight to be cancelled and Ruiz to be drafted in as a late replacement.

When asked if he would have Drake backstage at the fight, Joshua told The Michael Kay Show on ESPN: “I know I shouldn’t. Do you know about the Drake curse? It’s real though.

“This is what I’m saying, what’s weird though is I took a picture with Drake. We took it before [Jarrell] Miller got banned.

“Miller then had a drug test and got popped. The fight got cancelled!”

Although Joshua enters his fight with Ruiz Jr as a heavy favourite, he won’t want to take any chances as he looks to extend his unbeaten record.

Jadon Sancho, Serena Williams, Sergio Aguero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are among those to have suffered the effects of the ‘Drake curse’.

The most recent victim was Paris St-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa, who saw his team suffer their heaviest league defeat in 19 years as they were beaten 5-1 by Lille after the defender posted a photo with the rapper.

Arsenal striker Aubameyang suffered similar bad luck after meeting the 32-year-old, with the Gunners slipping to a 1-0 defeat at Everton in their next game.

It was a result which put a serious dent in Arsenal’s top four hopes and proved crucial as Unai Emery’s side finished fifth in the Premier League table, one point behind north London rivals Tottenham.
