Newly appointed Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women head coach Mike Opel roots for teamwork as he seeks to reclaim the team's glory.

“We lost both Africa Zone Five and national league titles last season to Equity Bank. I now strive to reclaim the two titles this year,” said Opel, who took over from coach Anthony Ojukwu.

“I want to have a team that can win the league and give better results,” said Opel. "I will encourage my players to teamwork and have the fighting spirit to win championships.”

The return of 10 players, who had moved to other clubs, will certainly boost the team. Lilian Adera, Christine Akinyi and Berlyne Aoko who played for KPA in 2017 but left for Uganda’s Kampala City Council (KCC) are back in the team alongside Zilmer Awino who had a short stint at Uganda Christian University.

Also back in the team is Felmas Adhiambo who was in the USA on a basketball scholarship. The Kenyan international left KPA last year after the end of the first leg for a scholarship and played at Tyler University and her return will no doubt inspire the team.

Melvin Iminza, previously from Strathmore, has joined KPA together with Nathali Akinyi who had taken a long break. Hilda Indasi and Feline Okumu who left KPA to Equity Bank are back alongside Grace Wanjiku who had a short stint at Kampala City Council Authority.

Another KPA star is Becky Nkatha who has joined the team from Storms. Nkatha helped Storms beat KPA by 28 points this season. Berlyne Milu and Rachel Wandago of Kenyatta University have joined KPA squad.

Coach Opel is expected to field his new signings this weekend when KPA host champions Equity at the Makande Indoor Gymnasium on Saturday and Sparks on Sunday.

Since the start of 2019 season KPA have lost once to Storms and won twice against Nairobi University’s Dynamites and Eagle Wings.
