Tusker FC’s Robert Matano named coach of the month



Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano has been named October SJAK/ Fidelity Insurance coach of the month during a brief award ceremony held on Tuesday at the Ruaraka grounds.  

Matano guided his side to four wins during the two months and drew the other match as he guided Tusker to a third place finish in the Kenyan Premier league.

Tusker registered wins over Thika United, AFC Leopards, Nzoia Sugar and Gor Mahia while the single draw came against Mathare United.

Matano beat Kariobangi Sharks’ William Muluya to the award that comes with Ksh 75,000.  Matano is the eighth winner of the award this year.

Past winners are Francis Kimanzi, Dennis Kitambi, Sammy Okoth, Anthony Mwangi, Dylan Kerr, Patrick Odhiambo and Bernard Mwalala.

Meanwhile this year’s  Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA)  is expected to attract a total of 700 guests who will be attending the event set to be held in Mombasa at a yet to be disclosed venue on January 11 2019 .

According to the organisers the annual fete ceremony will consist of 18 categories with nominees battling for honours in Overall sports personality, sports team of the year, federation of the year and coach of the year among other categories.

Finally, the inaugural Under-16 COPA Coca-Cola Africa Cup of Nations football tournament will be hosted in Nakuru County between the 10th and 15th of this month.  

The event will bring together players from twelve African countries to showcase their football prowess.

The twelve countries participating in this year’s tournament include; Angola, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa and the hosts Kenya.

Kenya will be represented by this year’s Copa Coca Cola U-16 National boys’ champions St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale and Moi Girls Nangili Girls.

Only Kenya and Zimbabwe will present girls’ teams, who open the championship at Nakuru High School on Monday.
