Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has reportedly taken Menengai Oil Refineries Limited to court for allegedly using his image for promotional purposes.
The Tottenham star is understood to have filed a case at the Milimani Law courts on Wednesday, August 7, seeking compensation for copyright infringement.
The oil refinery company is said to have used the photo of the midfielder alongside striker Michael Olunga and Ovella Ochieng in a tweet ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
“If you believe it, you can do it, we at the Menengai would like to wish our boys all the best in the Africa Cup of Nations,” tweet said.
In another social media post, Menengai shared a graphic photo showing Wanyama and Olunga embracing with the Premier League star holding a ball.
Wanyama however argues the post was captured without his consent, and therefore infringed his personality and image rights.
He further submits the information was never tailored to wish the Harambee Stars good luck at the continental tournament, but to promote the company's products.
