A representative for Albacete's town hall confirmed the completed version of Iniesta's statue would have clothes on.

"The image is not of the final work of the sculpture, but of a sketch in clay, before being cast in bronze. In the final sculpture, the athlete will appear wearing his sporting kit." the representative said.

The statue was to be celebrated by locals on July 10 but due to the global pandemic, authorities have moved it to 2021.

It has been ten long years since Spain emerged World Champions in South Africa after Iniesta scored an extra-time winner against the Netherlands in the final in Johannesburg.

Spain went into the tournament as European champions after they secured their first title in 2008 in Austria and Switzerland under legendary coach Luiz Aragones who retired after the tournament.

Then former Real Madrid boss Vicente del Bosque took over and led the side to their first World Cup triumph hosted for the first time by an African country.

The greatest Spanish team ever went on to retain their European title at the Euro 2012 as World champions, the first county to ever do so.
