Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o has been ranked the best performing governor according to a latest poll by research firm Trends and Insights for Africa (Tifa).

According to the results released Wednesday, Nyongo’s performance is attributed to the county’s cleanliness taking lead followed by feeder roads.

He is followed by Kiambu’s Ferdinand Waititu at 53 per cent, an equivalent of C plain, while Nairobi and Mombasa scored 51 per cent each.

The poll shows that Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is the most improved governor in terms of performance having scored a D+ in the previous survey. Street lighting and garbage collection took the lead.

Joho got a C plain in service delivery. He had scored 53 per cent in the last survey.

Meanwhile, motorists in Nairobi are from next month expected to enjoy reduced parking fees.

Governor Sonko on Tuesday said that the county Treasury has factored in a reduced daily fee of 200 shillings, down from the current 300 shillings.

In October, City Hall had proposed an increase to 400 shillings in the finance bill that is currently with the county assembly.

Sonko however said that after consultations with various stakeholders, including ward representatives, they agreed to slash the parking fees in order not to overburden motorists.

He however said that his administration will review the fees in future after the completion of projects aimed at reducing congestion in the central business district.
