Football fans on Saturday, October 5, accorded Bruno Fernandes a heartening reception as the Brazilian goalkeeper made a return to football.
In 2013, Fernandes was sentenced to 22 years in prison after being found guilty for the murder of his ex-girlfriend.
A court in Brazil ruled the shot-stopper was involved in the killing of Eliza Samudio who was seeking paternity payments after giving birth to a son who she said was the goalkeeper's.
In his own admission, the 34-year-old revealed his friends strangled the part-time model, before feeding part of her body parts to dogs.
Bruno, as he is fondly known to his fans was subsequently sent to the gallows, earning a jail term at Varginha.
But having qualified for a part-time release scheme, Bruno was allowed to travel to his new club, Pocos de Calas, where he now hopes to rejuvenate his football career.
The former Flamengo goalkeeper is however allowed out only during the day and must return at night.
He made an appearance for Pocos as a second-half substitute, producing astonishing saves as his side won 2-0 against Independiente Juruaia.
