Burly Amonde set for Shujaa return ahead of Hong Kong and Singapore legs

Kenya Sevens international Andrew Amonde has declared his availability for Shujaa selection ahead of tomorrow’s squad naming for the Hong Kong and Singapore Sevens set for April.

The KCB flanker hasn’t played in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2018/2019 after failing to agree on contract renewal with the Kenya Rugby Union(KRU).

His availability comes after the union sent a statement a fortnight ago saying that they had agreed on a return to work formula with the senior players for the remaining part of the season .

Other senior players who haven’t played this season include Kenya’s top try scorer Collins Injera, Willy Ambaka, Dennis Ombachi, Samuel Oliech, Dan Sikuta, Brian Tanga and Nelson Oyoo.

Head coach Paul ‘Pau’ Murunga said that all the players will be given equal opportunity.

Amonde’s pending return coincides with the recent election of Oduor Gangla as the new KRU chief in last week’s polls succeeding Richard Omwela.

Also likely to make a 360 turn and don the national colours are destructive winger Collins Injera, Samuel Oliech and Dennis Ombachi.

The Shujaa squad will travel on March 31 for the Hong Kong 7s where they’ve been pooled in Group C alongside Cape Town and Hamilton Sevens champions Fiji, Dubai and Sydney Sevens champions New Zealand, and Australia.

Shujaa lie 14th on the log with 18 points; four ahead of last-placed Japan with four rounds to go in Hong Kong, Singapore, London and Paris Sevens.
