Cabinet reshuffle put on hold amidst terror attack in Nairobi -

President Uhuru Kenyatta flew to Mombasa on Tuesday from where he was expected to announce a highly anticipated cabinet reshuffle.

However the plans were not to be as the president, soon after arrival at the coastal city, was informed of an unfolding terrorist attack in Nairobi just hours after he arrived in Mombasa, we can authoritatively report.

Although the president later flew back to Nairobi to chair an emergency National Security Council meeting, he was also forced to defer an announcement for reorganisation of government that has been on the cards for months now.

As state officials pondered on the implications of the terror attack, the president was being briefed on rescue operations and of events leading up to the terror attack which unfolded at a large upmarket complex, which houses the DusitD2 hotel and spa, exclusive offices, shops and banks along Nairobi’s Riverside Drive.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source close to the state house told Kenyan News Day that the President demanded immediate resolution to the terrorist impasse as rescue operations went on late Tuesday evening.

The source could not, however, divulge details of the cabinet reshuffle only alluding to the fact that corrupt.and non-performing cabinet members and senior government officials would be sent home or demoted.

Ealier in the day on Tuesday, explosions followed by gunfire have been heard at the DusitD2 compound,as hoards of heavily armed security personnel swarmed the busing with helicopters hovering overhead.

Somali militant group Al Shabaab was quoted in the international media as having has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In the meantime, this morning, President Kenyatta confirmed 14 lives were lost in terror attack, adding that the operation was now over with all terrorists have been killed.

The president also confirmed up to 700 civilians had been safely evacuated from the DusitD2 compound assuring the public that their security was guaranteed and that people should return to their normal routine.
