Politics 04:12 Tuesday January 15, 2019-Chief Justice, David Maraga, has told off President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga, for criticising the Judiciary.
For the last one month, Uhuru and Raila have ganged up in criticising the Judiciary accusing it of reluctance to aid the fight against corruption. Last week, Raila claimed that the Judiciary was standing in the way of the renewed fight against graft. Raila, who was speaking at a public forum, accused the court of failing to read the signs of the times and still living in the old days of corruption and bribery. “Some of the worst crimes” yet they are “allowed to go back and work, sack people and interfere with evidence,” Raila said. However in a rejoinder on Monday, Maraga said that the war on corruption would not be won on the intensity of emotions, but strict adherence to the rule of law. “If you bring a hopeless case, we will say in our judgment why we are dismissing it, and the public will know where to place the blame. If you bring us a strong case and we are the ones playing monkey business, the public will also see,” Maraga said. Maraga spoke during the swearing-in of the new Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC) Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak at the Supreme Court in Nairobi.
