According to BBC, Froome took his hands off his handlebars to blow his nose and was travelling at 54 km/h when a gust of wind caught his front wheel, causing him to hit the wall.

"Time is of the essence in these situations" his team principal Dave Brailsford said.
It's clear hell take no part in the Tour," Brailsford told French television while Froome was getting treated in an ambulance at the scene of the accident.

Froome crashed during a recon stage of stage four of the Criterium du Dauphine.

He was airlifted to St Etienne University Hospital where he was operated on though his condition remains concerning.

"He's not in great shape. There are crashes and bad crashes and this was a bad crash," said the Ineos team boss.
