West Mugirango is one of the constituencies known for electing opposition members of parliament since the advent of muiltiparty politics in 1992 and producing leaders who participated in the second liberation of our country Kenya.
The constituency is also notably known for producing political firebrands like the late George Anyona and Onyancha Obwocha.

Anyona

The history of multiparty politics in the country cannot be complete if Onyancha and Anyona who hail from West Mugirango constituency are not mentioned over the important roles which they played.
West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi Mogaka who is elected on a Ford Kenya ticket is currently having sleepless nights following mudslinging, witchhunt and blackmail from his political rivals who are determined to block him from being re-elected for the second term come the 2022 general elections .
Kemosi’s political competitors have vowed to use all tricks and their resources in making sure that he becomes one-term member of parliament.
West Mugirango is one of the four constituencies in Nyamira county which has a history of electing members of parliament for two terms before changing guard.
Three years before the next general elections are held, aspirants have hit the ground making inroads in every corner where they are using every opportunity they come across wooing voters into their sides come the next general elections.
Among the notable ones who have hit the ground include businessman Rogers Moturi, r advocate Steve Mogaka, James Agata, Dennis Anyoka, Moenga Momanyi, Ben Mosaisi and Jervis Babu.

Obwocha

Investigations carried by this writer has established that some of the aspirants have now resorted to using goons and boda boda riders to heckle Kemosi during functions so as to make him scared and look irrelevant to the current scenario of politics in the area.
The living testimony is when the Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i visited the constituency two months ago when an aspirant organised goons and boda bodas who heckled the MP before the minister so as portray him as a failure.
Similar scenarios have also been extended into funeral forums where the aspirants hire goons to disrupt the legislators’ speeches or use the burial organisers to block him from addressing the mourners.

Kemosi

The aspirants in their ill schemes against the MP have gone a notch higher where they also use church leaders to deny Kemosi chance to speak in functions being presided by the church citing a recent burial ceremony at Bomabacho village during burial of the mother of Nyamira county executive committee Benard Osumo.
In West Mugirango politics, like the rest of the other constituencies in the county, clan politics plays a big role in determining who should be elected as a member of parliament.
In the constituency, there are three major clans which cannot be ignored when it comes to constituency politics particularly when it comes to electing a member of parliament.
The three notable clans are Abasamaro, Abagichora, Abanyamatuta and other small subclans which have always been disadvantaged when it comes to electing their MP, employment and development matters.
