The Director of Public Prosecutions has opposed a review of KSh 30m bond and Ksh 12m alternative cash bail for the former National Lands Commission – NLC Chairperson Muhammad Swazuri and other accused persons.
DPP through the Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Vincent Monda said the bond terms were reasonable and asked the High Court to dismiss the application or enhance the bond terms.
Swazuri and other accused persons are charged with fraudulent and irregular land compensation for land acquired by the commission for the construction of the Mombasa Southern bypass and the Kipevu New Highway Container Link Road.
Justice Mumbi Ngugi will rule on the application on Thursday next week.

Last week, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives arrested the former NLC chairman Muhammad Swazuri and several other ex-officials on claims of fraudulent compensation.
The Commission said it had received an anonymous report concerning irregular payments to National Land Commission officials, private persons and entities and conducted investigations into the matter.
Swazuri and 10 NLC senior officials and traders were released on bail on Tuesday. The Anti-Corruption Court ordered Swazuri to pay a cash bail of Ksh12 million or an alternative bond of Ksh 30 million.
