KNEC Warns Kenyans Over Fake Advert Offering 230,000 Exam Jobs

The Kenya National Examinations Council has warned teachers and jobseekers against a fake recruitment advert claiming KNEC is hiring 230,000 people to administer the 2026 national examinations.

The advert circulating on social media claims the council is recruiting invigilators, supervisors, examiners, assessors, security officers, logistics personnel and support staff.

It falsely directs applicants to apply through the CP2 portal by September 30, 2026, while claiming that only a Teachers Service Commission registration certificate and certificate of good conduct are required.

KNEC said the notice did not originate from the council and warned the public against giving personal information or responding to fraudulent advertisements.

The fake advert comes as KNEC prepares to administer national examinations and assessments to about 3.6 million candidates, the highest candidature recorded in the country.

More than 1.04 million candidates are registered for the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination, marking the first time KCSE candidature has crossed one million.

About 1.38 million Grade Six learners are expected to sit the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, while roughly 1.2 million Grade Nine learners will take the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment.

KNEC routinely contracts teachers and other professionals to supervise, invigilate and mark national examinations, but eligibility requirements differ depending on the role.

For example, KCSE and KJSEA examiners generally require a Diploma in Education or higher qualification in the relevant subject, at least three years of teaching experience and recommendation from their heads of institution.

KPSEA supervisors and invigilators are also normally drawn from serving primary school teachers with prescribed professional qualifications.

The council has advised teachers to rely only on its official communication channels for recruitment information.

Kenyans have also been urged to be cautious about social media advertisements requesting personal details or payments, particularly during periods when genuine examination recruitment exercises are expected.
