Mlolongo-Kamulu Road to Close for Two Months From October 1

Motorists using the Mlolongo-Kamulu Road, also known as Quarry Road, will face temporary diversions for two months as the Kenya Urban Roads Authority carries out rehabilitation works.

KURA said the road will be closed from October 1 to December 1, 2026, to allow a contractor to undertake construction on the busy route.

The closure is expected to affect motorists travelling between Mlolongo, Syokimau, Katani and surrounding areas.

Light and medium vehicles will be diverted through Syokimau-Katani Road or Syokimau-Parliament Road, while heavy commercial vehicles will use Tuffoam Road.

KURA has asked motorists to follow traffic signs and instructions from traffic marshals and police officers deployed along the affected route.

The authority said the temporary disruption is necessary to allow essential works to be completed safely.

Quarry Road has for years attracted complaints from residents and motorists over its poor condition, including potholes, congestion and damage to vehicles.

Local leaders and transport operators have welcomed the rehabilitation, saying the road has deteriorated significantly and needs a longer-term solution.

Mavoko representatives said concreting sections of the road could provide a more durable surface than previous repairs, which they argue have not lasted.

Bodaboda operators have also been advised to familiarise themselves with the diversion routes and inform passengers that journeys may temporarily take longer.

The rehabilitation is expected to ease travel once completed, particularly for the large number of trucks, public service vehicles and private motorists using the route daily.

KURA has urged road users to cooperate with the contractor throughout the construction period and apologised for the inconvenience caused by the closure.
