Education CS Magoha says interdiction of teachers will stand

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has reiterated the Teachers Service Commission’s stance on interdiction of teachers accused of disrupting the training on the new education curriculum.

The minister insists that the expulsion of the 160 teachers can only be lifted by their employer even as he disclosed the government’s plans to hire more teachers.

Following the crackdown the teachers’ employer said the affected teachers were guilty of insubordination and must show cause why action cannot be taken against them.

This position will stand if sentiments by Education CS Prof. George Magoha are anything to go by Prof Magoha refuting claims that he has the power to reinstate interdicted teachers saying that only the Teachers’ Service Commission and the teachers can find an amicable way to resolve the matter.

The Minister has in the meantime disclosed plans to recruit more teachers’ to help address the shortage that has been reported in various parts of the country.

Speaking during the official launch of the Teachers Service Commission Strategic plan 2019-2023 in Nairobi, Magoha noted that the government is keen to ensure smooth transition in the implementation of the Competence Based Curriculum countrywide.

Adding that “It is noble and right to ask teachers to measure what they are doing. Planing as a teacher is paramount and proportional to your success,” said CS Prof Magoha.
