Education CS Prof Magoha unveils task force to analyze CBC

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has launched a 17 member task force to undertake a critical analysis of the competence based curriculum.

The task force mandate is to advise stakeholders on the implementation of the junior secondary school curriculum as envisaged in the new 2-6-3-3-3 education system.

The task force led by Prof. Fatuma Chege comprises membership drawn from key sectors will advise on transition of Grade Six cohort of the Competency Based Curriculum and Standard 7 and 8 of the current 8-4-4 system.

According to the implementation schedule, the transition is expected to take place in 2023. Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has ordered the team to prepare a report on the transition process of pupils in Grades 7, 8 and 9 before the CBC conference to be held on 16th August this year.

Prof. Magoha at the same time wants the task force to work on the CBC assessment for the reformed curriculum which has been the subject of public debate recently.

On her part Professor Chege promised to work closely with the relevant bodies to come up with a comprehensive practical report.
