Felista Njoroge to Wait Longer for her Sh102m Fortune

Felista Nyamathira Njoroge, the 21-year-old student whose bank account with Sh102 million was frozen two weeks ago, will have to wait longer to access her fortune.

Nyamathira, who was gifted the cash by her dollar millionaire boyfriend – Marc De Mesel – had moved to court seeking to have the freeze orders lifted.

The Nairobi Technical Institute student argued that she was not engaged in any financial misconduct. She stated that she has the right to engage in business and develop relationships as enshrined in the Constitution.

Through lawyer Thomas Maosa, Nyamathira accused the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA) of malice saying the agency did seek any explanation from her regarding the funds in her account.

During the hearing of her application on Wednesday, ARA lawyer Mohammed Adow told the court that he was not ready to proceed as they are yet to file formal responses to the application.

But Prof. Patrick Lumumba objected to Adow’s argument saying that he took the student to ARA offices for purposes of writing a statement and nothing happened.

“…their request to the respondents for purposes of taking a statement, they chose not to do that and they indicated there was a problem of representation that has been sorted out, and therefore it is not correct for Adow to come to court this morning after a week to say that he is not ready to proceed,” said Prof. Lumumba.

The court directed that the matter be mentioned on January 26 next year.
