Gor Mahia's Champions League trip to Algeria is in limbo as the club grapples with financial challenges.

K'Ogalo are scheduled to play USM Alger for the first leg of their Caf Champions League match on Sunday, September 15.

However, the trip is under serious threat after Gor failing to raise enough money for it during a funds drive organised on Tuesday, September 10, in Nairobi.

According to the club's chair, Ambrose Rachier, the funds drive was a flop as guests invited failed to turn up.

“We have not raised sufficient money for hotel accommodation in Algiers,” Goal quoted Rachier saying.
“We did not raise good money as most of our guests did not turn up for the reasons we are unable to explain but those who attended managed to raise a paltry amount which is not sufficient at all," he disclosed.

Rachier, however, did not reveal the exact amount raised during the function given a number of guests only made pledges.

“It is very difficult to reveal the amount raised as at now because we have pledges, we have post-dated cheques and it makes it difficult to confirm the exact amount of money we have now,” the Gor supremo said.

Club patron Raila Odinga and Nairobi governor Mike Sonko and Makadara are key among the invited guests who did not attend the fundraiser.
