The Labour Day celebrations were Wednesday dampened as the government failed to announce the minimum wage increment this year as has been the tradition every year.

Cabinet Secretary for Labour Ukur Yattani said negotiations between the Federation of Kenya Employers and wage council were on-going and he would make a pronouncement over the same in the course of the week once the negotiations are over.

At the same time, Yattani said the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has put mechanisms in place that will help mitigate the rampant strikes in the country.

He added for the country to attain industrial harmony his ministry has revitalized alternative dispute resolution by appointing a Standing Conciliation Committee to mediate complex Labour disputes.
