The Weatherman has warned that parts of Isiolo County and the western parts of Samburu County are expected to receive significant rainfall beginning Thursday the 25th April 2019 up to the end of the month.
“There is likelihood of heavy rainfall between 25 -30 April 2019 in parts of Isiolo, Samburu, Narok, Kajiado, Trans Nzoia and Nairobi Counties which may cause flooding in some parts of the low-lying areas in these Counties,” says the Director of Meteorological Services Stella Aura in an update of the seasonal forecast.
While calling for sustainable utilization of the rainfall being experienced in most parts of the country, Aura said moderate rainfall is expected over several parts of northern Kenya including Wajir and Mandera counties as well as the southeastern counties including Machakos.
“The rains have begun late and should be utilized productively to ensure self-sufficiency in food, water and pasture for animals,” said the Director.

The Director noted that the current projection indicates that the rains will continue to the beginning of the month of May “in a reduced intensity,” she said.
Aura said episodes of heavy storms are also likely in isolated areas especially the western parts of the country.
Aura said the current rainfall is also expected over several counties in the Lake basin region including the highlands west of Rift Valley, Central and Southern Rift Valley counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia.
The rain that is expected to last until April 29th will also be experienced in a few areas in counties within the Central Highlands including Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi as well as Marsabit county in Northern Kenya.
She said Makueni, Kitui, Kajiado and Taita Taveta will receive light rains. The others areas expected to receive light rains include coastal counties of Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Tana River together with the Northwestern region of Turkana, West Pokot and Eastern Samburu as well as Garissa county.
The Weatherman says the end of seasonal rains over most parts of the country are likely to be from the 2nd to 3rd week of May, “the western and coastal strip is expected to receive rainfall up to the beginning of the month of June,” said Aura.
The distribution of the rains in time is however expected to be poor. Dry spells are expected to continue being realized during the month.
