Il Paradiso has been sparring with Stradivarius as he warms up for the final Classic William Hill St Leger at Doncaster, September 14.
He is down to 5-1 already, just behind Logician at 6-4. He ran a brilliant race at York, failing by a small margin to Stradivarius and Dee Ex Bee, in the Lonsdale Cup.
Now rated at 115, Aiden O'Brien's, Il Paradiso, has a huge following for the marathon 2,800m event, especially after clearing his Curragh field by 12 lengths.
O'Brien has won the St Leger six times and his one of his other 11 runners, Constantinople, also has a tilt at victory.
Recent Japanese purchase, Broome, and, Sir Dragonet, could cause an upset. There are still 24 entries to date.
Needless to say, Il Paradiso is sired by the great Galileo, who has never produced anything sub-standard.
The inaugural running was held at Cantley Common in 1776, initiated by Anthony St Leger, An Army Officer and politician.
Great Voltigeur winner, Logician, was considering other options, but he has been committed to the big race, although not used to longer distances.
Logician is an unbeaten son of the great Frankel. The grey super star, could tally a fifth strike for trainer, John Gosden, who has already done wonders with Shantou, Lucarno, Artic Census, and, Masked Marvel - albeit, not consecutively.
On a different note. One has to laugh at young filly, Palomba, who went way above and beyond expectations of trying to reach the post first.
This happened at Maisons-Lafitte, as Palomba attempted to bite the rival jockey, in full flight. Sent off at 3-5 on, the Maxime Guyon-ridden, talent, did her best Luis Suarez impression when challenging Lucky Lycra.
She turned her face completely, almost taking a chunk out of Francois-Xavier Bertras.
Fortunately, Bertras escaped the mauling and went on to win, totally oblivious to Palomba's cheekiness. Apparently, this is an absolutely isolated case, since forever.
