- Ivan Rakitic is wanted by Manchester United and could leave Barcelona next year
- Manchester United wants the Croatian football star to bolster their squad
- But the Red Devils will face serious competition from Inter Milan for his signature
Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Spanish champions Barcelona on the possibility of signing Croatia international Ivan Rakitic when the transfer opens.
This season, Rakitic has found active playing time hard to come by at Barcelona, playing 186 minutes so far and starting only a game.
Before the close of the last transfer window, United were understood to be interested in signing the Croatian, but the transfer fell through.
However, according to latest reports, the Red Devils have once again reignited interest in the midfielder, with Metro UK reporting the EPL giants have already approached Barcelona and have began initial negotiations with the Spanish giants.
The report added Barcelona will be willing to sell the 31-year-old only if Manchester United can pay the sum of £34 million.
United will however have to contend with competition from Inter Milan who are also reportedly monitoring Rakitic.
Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have not been impressive this season, leaving the Norwegian under immense pressure.
The Old Trafford dwellers have collected just nine points in eight matches, and now sit 12th on the standings.
