- Reyes won the Premier League and La Liga titles in England and Spain

Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a car crash in Spain.

The former Arsenal, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla striker passed away following the accident that occurred on Saturday, June 1.

Former club Sevilla tweeted: "We couldn't be confirming worse news. Beloved Sevilla star José Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision. Rest in peace."

He was the youngest player in Sevilla history to make his debut for the club, at just 16-years of age.

Reyes joined Arsenal in January 2004, and he went on to win the league as part of the club's 'Invincible' season.

Reyes also played in the Champions League final against Barcelona in 2006.

He went on to feature Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, a return to Sevilla, Espanyol, and others.

Former club Espanyol joined the legions of supporters paying tribute.

"From RCD Espanyol we wish to express our heartfelt condolences and send all our support to the family and to those at Sevilla."

Meanwhile, TUKO.co.ke had earlier reported that Papy Faty, a Burundian international, collapsed and died during a football match after he disobeyed medical advice to quit the game because of his heart condition.

The 28-year-old was involved in a league game for Swaziland side Malanti Chiefs when he fell ill and died as a result.
