Kagwe urges youth to take lead in fight against Coronavirus

Cabinet Secretary for Health Mutahi Kagwe has called upon the youth in the country to take the lead in the fight against the spread of Coronavirus.

The CS was making his remarks while addressing the nation on the status of Coronavirus.

“I want to make a special appeal to the youth of our nation. The youth are the biggest component of our society. They are the largest group who are mobile. They have the energy and I appeal to them to use this energy to fight this disease,” said Kagwe.

The Health Cabinet Secretary said that the global statistics showed that the youth are contracting the disease and are safer than older people.

“I appeal to the youth to become part of the solution to the problems that we are experiencing by taking certain measures,” said Kagwe.

Kagwe cautioned Kenyans who are travelling upcountry without knowing their status saying there is a possibility of spreading the disease to the older generation back home.

“They should take certain measures some of which include not travelling upcountry because by going there you might kill your parents or grandparents who are elderly,” he said.

The CS said if the youth organize themselves as seen in matatus, markets and Boda Bodas can create a difference by ensuring they are at the centre of fighting Coronavirus.

“The youth should be at the Centre of fighting this disease. It is a journey that requires the energy of youth. I ask them to take up the responsibility like previous generations that fought for independence. It is the youth who will suffer in future,” he said.

He added, “It is the responsibility of the youth to protect the nation.”

“If you don’t, you will suffer the most. There will be no jobs and a collapsed economy. It is you who will bury us in large numbers. However, the path ahead is clear, you have to be part of the solution.”
