Kenya loses to Argentina, face Zimbabwe in 13th place semi-finals



The Cape Town Sevens is the second leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series.


Kenya’s Shujaa lost their 4th straight match at the second leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series after losing to Argentina in the Challenge trophy match played Sunday afternoon in Cape Town, South Africa.

Shujaa, who had suffered group stage defeats to England, Fiji and France, lost 34-31 to Argentina.

Kenya conceded 4 quick tries in the first half before responding with two of their own tries and despite a spirited fight at the end, they ran out of time before leveling the score.

Kenya is expected to Zimbabwe in the 13th place semi final of the Cape Town Sevens after loss to Argentina.

Kenya scored five tries through Leonard Mugaisi, Alvin Otieno, Vincent Onyala, Johnstone Olindi, and Sammy Motari with Daniel Taabu making three conversions.

Argentina got a hat trick from Ignacio Mendy, with Franco Sabato, Lautaro Bazan Velez, and Gaston Revol.

Bazan Velez added two conversions. Kenya’s opponents Zimbabwe lost 28-24 to Canada in the third Challenge Trophy quarter final. Kenya vs Zimbabwe will kick off at 3.19pm.

The Cape Town Sevens is the second leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series.
