Kenya Basketball Federation Classic League men defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) captain Samuel Ocholla, who doubles up as assistant head coach, has said coming to Nairobi three days prior to their league matches over the weekend is what led them in registering wins.
KPA hammered Strathmore’s Blades 62-53 on Saturday before defeating USIU 74-47 on Sunday.
“I am happy how the boys played especially defensively whereby we moved as a team. Coming three days before playing helped a lot in team chemistry, we now look forward to end the first leg in high note,” Ocholla said.
On his part, team head coach, Sammy Kiki praised his boys for well-done job.
“We played well, the new team has really improved, and they played according to game plan and instructions,” Kiki added.
KPA have played eight games, winning six and losing two and are now with 14 points and they will be facing Equity Bank and World Hope in their next assignment in Mombasa.
Meanwhile, Blades captain George Okoth blamed poor offensive tactics saying it led to the loss against KPA despite defeating World Hope 54-51 on Saturday.
“We stepped up our defense but we are still struggling on the offensive end,” Okoth said.
Blades last season’s semifinalists continue with their poor run in the league have so far lost five games, winning only three.
Elsewhere, Storms women basketball were able to revenge when they crashed former defending champions KPA 55-52 who eliminated them in last year’s semifinal.
“As I promised we were able to revenge and am now happy man; hoping my players to continue with the same team spirit moving forward,” Storms head coach Abel Nson said.
On her side KPA team captain Brenda Angeshi said the loss against Storms was due to hiccup but promised to recover in the coming matches.
KPA have so far played three games, winning two, losing one while Storms have won five matches, losing four.
Meanwhile defending champions Equity Bank’s match against Strathmore was postponed till further notice.
