Maji Milele knows water is life – KBC

Access to clean water is perhaps the most major of issues in urban and rural Kenya. Maji Milele is a for-profit social enterprise whose core business is to provide long lasting water services though prepaid water systems.

Maji Milele services pre-existing community boreholes in Amagoro and Malaba. They collect revenue through prepaid tokens and in return maintain, repair or replace parts.

“We now have clean water in our school that we can drink without the fear of stomach upsets.” – Principal St. Thomas Amagoro Secondary School.

The introduction of this service has been a safeguard in the health of the community. The system provides a cost-friendly alternative to receiving water from a vendor. It costs KSH 5/- for a 20 litre jerrycan and KSH 50/- for 100 litres

Maji Milele uses a monitored water system that keeps track of all water collected. This ensures that the funds raised from water collection go back to into the project and the pipes are always maintained, ensuring a long lasting water supply.

This social enterprise doesn’t only provide volumes of water to the community, but also preserving water as each and every drop is accounted for. Another environmental aspect seen at the kiosks is that they solely run on solar energy. “The coming of Maji Milele has rescued many people in our community because now they can rely on clean and safe water.” – Chrispin Emusucut; Sales manager at Maji Milele
