- The transfer was however punctuated with the heartbreaking passing on of his father

- James, who scored on his United EPL debut has dedicated the goal to his late dad

Man United new signing Daniel James has paid tribute to his late father following his blistering start to life at Old Trafford.

James was United's first summer signing, joining the Red Devils in a £15million deal from Championship side, Swansea City.

The Welsh winger made his Premier League bow in the second half, replacing Andreas Pereira in the 74th minute of the Red Devils' 4-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 11.

The bow saw him make a dream start, as he scored just seven minutes after coming on as a substitute.

His goal added to Marcus Rashford's sensational brace and Anthony Martial's clinical finish in the 65th minute.

In a moving interview shortly after the match, James paid tribute to his late father, who passed on just days before his dream move to United.

"It would have been amazing for him to be here today, but he's not, and I dedicate that goal to him," James said.
"I scored the wining penalty in Cardiff last week which was amazing, to be in Wales as well. To score on my debut here, you couldn't write it," he added.

It now remains to be seen if James' cameo appearance will convince manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to hand him a starting role in United's next game against Wolves.
