The Labour Day celebrations in Mandera County were marked by a low turnout as residents opted to snub the fete citing they had little to celebrate.
The youth in the county faulted the national and county governments for allegedly failing to create employment opportunities.
At the same time, they cited insecurity in the region as a major hindrance to carrying out business.

Miles away in Mandera, it’s just an ordinary day for residents here, Labor Day for a section of the youth appears to carry little meaning.
A section of the youth in the county has cited joblessness as a brewing crisis that must be addressed.
They are now calling on the county government to adhere to the 30% requirement to award tenders to youth, women and marginalized groups.
Valtazaras Ouma a jua kali artisan in Mandera asked the government to do more in curbing insecurity especially along the border which he says is further affecting business operations in the county.
Residents have urged the county government of Mandera to provide an opportunity for business to thrive and give young people an opportunity to engage in economic development.
